History
In 1955 the state of Florida created the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority and the opening of a new terminal in 1959. Even though the first commercial service began in 1940.
In 1992 Sarasota Bradenton International airport became an international airport when the U.S. customs service designated it for ” Point of entry” status
In 2002 the runway was extended to 9,500 feet and again redone to handle most commercial jet airplanes as well as private jet service.

Checking in at the Airport
Ticket counters open 2 hours before check in. However the TSA security checkpoint is open from 3:30 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. for your convenience and most airlines offer online check in service.
